Ashley Douglas

Owner and Head Trainer 

​

Ashley has always had a passion for working with animals and was a dog owner long before she became a certified professional dog trainer. She has worked and volunteered in veterinary offices and animal shelters.

 

Ashley spent 18 years as an upper elementary school teacher. In 2016, she took a break from teaching and worked for a law enforcement dog training facility on Edisto Island, SC. There, she learned about National K9 Dog Trainer School.

 

In 2017, Ashley earned her Certified Professional Dog Trainer Certification from National K9, and in 2018, she started Paws On Learning's daytime board and train facility.

 

Over the last few years, Ashley has attended the International Association of Canine Professionals conference in Florida, Puppy Potential Workshop in North Carolina, and Hope Service Dogs Service Dog Training Seminar in Florida.

 

She utilizes her years as a professional teacher and her formal education and experience training dogs to help people in the Hilton Head, Bluffton, Beaufort, Savannah area reach their dog's potential.

Jaxx Long

Trainer 

​

Jaxx received her dog trainer certification from Animal Behavioral College, is certified on the proper use and implementation of Herm Sprenger training products, and is a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP)P. She avidly pursues continuing education and professional development by attending seminars and keeping current on all industry standards. Having fostered and adopted most of her pets from animal control and shelters, she has experienced many of the problems and frustrations that owners face. She is committed to providing the most effective, practical solutions to her clients’ individual dog training needs, helping them enjoy easier lives with their canine companions.

Tanner Schaidt

Assistant Trainer and Kennel Technician 

​

Tanner is a pre-vet student who has volunteered at several vets in the Bluffton area. He has a passion for large breed and guardian breed dogs but believes every dog has the potential to be a perfect canine companion. Tanner holds weekly Fetch Some Fun Fridays, a day of one-on-one play focusing on individualized dog:dog and dog:people socialization, including agility practice and training walks.

Blake Forkner

Obedience and Service Dog Trainer 

​

Blake is a part-time trainer with Paws On Learning. She is also head trainer for Meika's Helping Paws in Savannah, GA, where she trains service dogs for the disabled. Blake has more than ten years of training experience and competes with her own dogs in AKC sports including obedience, rally, agility, lure coursing, dock diving, and therapy dog work. Blake loves to see the connection between owner and dog and how the life of a disabled person can be changed for the better with their service dog.

Taylor James

Summertime Kennel Technician 

​

Taylor is studying to become a veterinarian at Winthrop University. She has owned dogs all of her life and volunteered at numerous animal shelters. She loves working with the dogs at Paws On Learning and learning to understand their behavior. She believes this experience will be extremely useful for her future as a veterinarian.

Alma Ceron

Substitute Assistant Trainer 

​

Alma has worked with dogs since she was 16. As a kennel tech at Brookes Bed and Biscuit, a kennel and dog rescue, she spent time with both dogs that were boarding and those that were surrendered and up for adoption. She learned a lot about reading dogs’ behavior and how to socialize them, as well as distributing meds and overall proper care. Whenever she had the opportunity, Alma fostered dogs and puppies while they waited to be adopted.
